Dreamer
by Kristen Brantley
Grade 6, VA

Young People's Poetry Contest, 2002
Blue Ribbon Poem

Laying at night,
I'm thinking I might
have a chance to do
whatever I want to,
and then I start imagining silly things,
caught in my world which is open to dreams.
Dreaming of candy, of love, of joy.
Dreaming of peace, and a box full of toys.
I can dream forever in my little big mind,
I never want to stop and leave my perfect land behind.
Where flowers never die,
and people really fly.
Where there is peace at last,
and love is never in the past.
We're all very different there,
but very much the same,
and in this world I feel the battles have been won in life's many games.
