One More Day With You
by Kaitlin Spurgat
Grade 3, WI

Young People's Poetry Contest, 2002
Blue Ribbon Poem

Someone told me
I could have a wish
granted just for me.

And I told her -
One more day with you.

One more day,
One more time,
Just one more day with you.

She asked –
Wouldn’t you like to have a pot of gold?
A rainbow in the sky that would never go away?

And I said –
No, just one more day with you.

One more day,
One more time,
I just want one more day with you.

Just One.
