"What a perfect day for a launch," thought Zastezrinatz. He was head of the Earth Lander project committee. Today was the day set for the launch of the lander. The committee had worked for two years to perfect the lander, and it was finally time for the launch. June 19, 2002 would go down in the history books of aliens throughout the galaxy. Excitement hung heavy in the air. The countdown to liftoff is almost over. Five... Four... Three... Two... One... Liftoff! A little baby clung to its mother, wailing. The rumble of the lander taking off shook all the buildings within a one-mile radius of the pad. Nobody knew, as they watched that spacecraft fly through their Martian atmosphere, that it would become the most famous of all Earthling UFOs. Almost a year later, James Oates, a five year old in North Carolina, spotted something weird that looked like it was going to land near their house. He yelled for his mother, who was inside folding laundry. She jumped up so quickly, she upset all the laundry, but she ran outside not caring at all what happened to all the clothes she had so carefully washed. They ran to where it looked like it was going to land and watched it thud down. A robot hand reached out and took a soil sample; then the lander rolled away, beeping "Hello Earthlings!" over and over. It floated through Buckhorn Lake, flew over all the roads, came back, and then stopped, hovering, over the Harrell's new house, where Austin, one of James' cousin, spotted it. He had been taking pictures of the lake behind their house, so he had his camera with him. He immediately shot three pictures of it, and as he got ready to take another, the lander shot away. He notified his father, who told NASA. Back on Mars, everyone was celebrating the successful mission. Will we ever have another visit like this? Only time will tell.
