These lessons serve as springboards for developing students' strategic reading skills. Each lesson addresses a particular reading skill in a "non-textbook" manner and emphasizes active student involvement through reading, discussion, cooperative learning, creative and critical thinking, and other motivating activities.

With these lessons, students actively participate in the reading process and develop strategic reading skills they will need to be lifelong readers and learners.

While completing the activities, students learn to monitor and adjust their reading for different purposes and different types of writing.

Lessons are useful for teachers who must prepare students for state-mandated reading tests.

Special Features: The lessons focus on six important areas of understanding and skill: vocabulary, facts and details, main idea, casual relationships, inferences, and fact/nonfact. Every lesson includes an objective, list of materials required, directions for learning activities, and directions for extension activities.
